Two Bloodletters Civil War and earlier, dug in Central Virginia. This was the primitive technology that helped kill Geroge Washington. In olden days, it was believed that bleeding a patient would help heal various maladies. This
concept likely emanated from a study of females who routinely bled from menstrual cycles and generally outlived their male counterparts. Though the bloodletting practice was generally outdated by the time the Civil War rolled around, such devices as bloodletters are occasionally found in Civil War camps.
